Community Marketing for Lawyers

Moving forward in 2021, I can’t think of a more powerful, effective and needed legal marketing approach than COMMUNITY BASED MARKETING.

Why?

Because after all we’ve all been through because of COVID-19 this past year, everyone wants to get back to connecting and gathering with others in our local communities. We all miss human to human interactions and activities in our home towns. Helping your community do this, the right way, will not only provide value to those you care about, but it will also help raise your reputation and brand above all the noise. It will show that you care!

Earlier today, my special guest on Clubhouse was Anneke Kurt Godlewski. Her ideas and presentation on Community Based Marketing are the best I’ve ever seen on this topic. Compliment these offline approaches with online digital amplification, and you have powerful tools that most lawyers have never even thought about. Anneke’s ideas can forever change how your firm is viewed in your local community for years to come.

For those of you who were unable to make today’s Clubhouse Room, no worries. Just for you, I’m sharing this earlier live video interview I had with Anneke that covers everything we talked about earlier today on the audio only Clubhouse app.

In the future, and to avoid missing other great interviews (99% of them ARE NOT recorded for future viewing), get updates and stay connected here.

Make today your masterpiece!

What EVERYONE Needs to Know About the New Clubhouse “Gifts” Feature (giving money to others)

First, I’m a fan of being able to monetize digital platforms, especially Clubhouse. Having said that, there are issues everyone needs to understand.

Regarding what is happening on Clubhouse, most of the details can be found in your profile. Simply click your profile, click the settings button (top right), drop down to the “What’s New” tab and read. You can also see this post.

During my room earlier today, we had a good discussion on this new update to Clubhouse. The extremely smart lawyers and professionals who joined me on stage shared their thoughts around the following related issues that I think we all need to pay attention to. For the lawyers reading this, you may want to share your recommendations with clients who are using Clubhouse and plan on monetizing the platform.

Issues Recognized and Discussed:

How are our profiles created? As individuals or through our business entities?

Ethics and conflicts of interests issues?

Is the payment an actual gift or is it consideration for value? (substance over form issue).

State/Federal/Bar/Regulatory issues?

State, national and international tax liability issues?

For the lawyers, doctors and accountants reading this post, are you creating an actual attorney/client relationship or the appearance of a professional relationship?

I am a big fan of being able to monetize the Clubhouse platform. However, there are major things for everyone involved to take into consideration including those topics above.

If you have questions, please check with an experienced lawyer and accountant in your state. For purposes of interviews, I’m available to be a guest speaker on your Clubhouse stage if anyone has questions.

Make each day your masterpiece!

How To Get More Followers On Clubhouse

How to get more followers on clubhouse logo and image

Building your name and brand on social media and specifically Clubhouse, takes time. The process isn’t a sprint or marathon (there’s no finish line). Think of this process as something more like a healthy diet or exercise plan. Consistent effort over time is what will get you the results you’re looking for.

On Clubhouse, the secret to building a following to your profile and more members and followers in your Clubhouse Club is showing up and ACTIVE engagement.

What do I mean by this?

Well, hosting and moderating and/or co-moderating rooms is a great place to start. Being on stage and leading an active, engaging, entertaining and helpful room is a great place to start. Using the below mentioned approaches (links) as a moderator will encourage an active and interesting room and for people on stage and in the audience to follow you and others in the room. Co-moderating with others who already have large followings is also a solid approach to bring more people into your sphere of influence. See this post and consider this brand new course by my long-time friend, Brooke, with her link here.

Another approach that works well for me is to join active clubs, show up in other rooms that you’re interested in, read the room and once done, RAISE YOUR HAND and appropriately participate in the conversation. Including others in your conversation and adding to the conversation (ask the moderators and fellow speakers open-ended questions) will result in people on stage, and in the audience being more invested in who you are and tapping to connect with you and your club if you have one. Use these approaches (my favorite on social) during your conversation to build rapport and your brand.

For the lawyers reading this, I’ve also found that being involved in rooms and in clubs of interests, outside of the legal profession, also sets you apart from others in the room (sometimes I’m the only lawyer in these rooms and clubs) and as a result, the engagement, new relationships and followers happen.

In conclusion, being active on the platform and adding value to the experience of others will help improve your brand and result in more followers. This has always worked for me on the other social media platforms and it works here too.

Compliment this effort with a properly completed profile bio, club description and a friendly and bright profile picture with a big smile, and you’ll be setting yourself up more followers and long-term success on the #Clubhouse platform.
